Spribo defines a knowledge network as an online social ecosystem where a group of people with common interests, purposes, values or beliefs can connect, collaborate, create, consume, and share information, contacts, and experience around a professional or social specific context, interpreting the meaning of these data as the key element to understand, direct, and control better their social media presence and interact in more relevant, precise, useful, and enjoyable ways.

This kind of virtual communities becomes more attractive due to the way member peering is established, content is visualized, search results are obtained, and recommendations and alerts are made available to members. It also happens to be significantly more valuable for network creators, allowing them to exploit the knowledgebase, identify social behavior patterns, preferences, or market trends and value the meaning of content collectively contributed by members around a common interest or purpose, as part of their social communication (e.g., dentist community, electoral vote group, state ecosystem, environmental group, artist fans, etc.).
